What would your spouse say if you were to wear the same exact outfit every day for a month?
At first, he might be happy that you’re not spending money on new clothes… But after 30 days (or even 5 days), he will ask if something is off!
The same is true for your Social Media content!
If you keep showing up online in the same exact way, month-after-month, year-after-year, there’s a chance your audience will get bored and they’ll move on to someone else.
So let’s spice things up!
Inside this training, we’ll explore the best and most surprising ways to improve your video content!
Are you ready? Let’s dive in!
5 Surprising Ways to Improve Your Video Content:
Tip #1: Change up the Modality
How do you usually show up on video? Do you use pre-recorded videos, go Live every day, or change up your setting?
We all have patterns (a.k.a. modalities) that we like to stick to. And that's great! But over time, that can get boring or even confusing. For example, if you go Live at different times and different days, without giving people notice, your audience might get confused about what they can expect from you.
That's why we love to keep things fresh and show up in new and different ways!
Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
- going Live every day/week at the same time;
- conducting an interview with influencers/experts;
- doing a weekly show!
For example, we anchored a LIVE "Money Monday with the Meltons" Show into our weekly content agenda every Monday. So people know to expect that from us on the regular.
We also love to make small tweaks and explore the results they provide! You could:
- create a vertical video (they tend to perform better at the moment);
- change your background;
- upload a pre-recorded video and Premiere it!
But make no mistake - Live video is still just as powerful as ever before. There are a lot of competitors that aren't doing Live videos as much as they used to in the beginning. So if you're just showing up consistently, you're already ahead of the competition!
And how long should your videos be? Facebook tells us that the best length for Live videos is 15 to 20 minutes. But if you only have 10 minutes' worth of content, then talk for only 10 minutes! You want to make your videos as short as possible but as long as they need to be to teach what you need to teach.
Tip #2: Get Grounded Before You Go Live
In other words, check your energy levels and fine-tune your mindset!
The purpose of a Live video is to have fun, bring joy and stay on your toes. That means that sometimes you might get a little off track, and that's all right! The important thing is to bring the energy! And if you're not that excited about the topic you're talking about? Then don't drag it out.
Another strategy we have is that we get grounded in affirmations. Pretend like they already love you!
If you're new or you need a reminder, it's not a bad idea for you to have a little sticky note that you put on your phone that says something like, "They already love me but they haven't found me yet." That will make you very grounded and postured, and the sexiest thing you can put on is confidence.
But we know it can be tough. That's why we want you to do an exercise.
Next time, before you go Live, look at yourself in a mirror and say, "I'm the best. I'm the best. I'm the very, very best. I'm the best. I'm the best. I'm the very, very best. I'm the best. I'm the best. I'm the very, very best." That way you're literally programming your mind to think that you are the best. Because you are the best!
Tip #3: Stressed Work is Never Your Best Work
How can you create a workflow around your content when it comes to video, so you don't stress over what you'll talk about 5 min before you go Live?
We talked about how energy is everything. But if you show up energetically and you don't have your thoughts organized, it can actually bring anxiety to the people who are watching you. So you need to find the balance. And this is where you need to create the 1, 2, 3s and ABCs, so that everything becomes simple to manage.
So how can you do that? Go back to the last 30 days and take a look at what videos you did that were really good. What did you do before that broadcast? How did you prepare for it? Write down the process. That way you can even create a little checklist for yourself.
Another thing you can do more of is to tell your story. Use analogies and real-life scenarios that you've experienced, things that you've been through, lessons that you've learned. That will make you authentic! Don't be afraid to say, "Hey, listen, I'm really nervous about this but it's something on my heart and I wanted to share it."
Now there is, of course, that fine line. No one wants a rags-to-rags story - they want rags-to-riches. So always teach a problem after you've found the solution for it!
Don't be afraid to show up with your personal stories, with your personal struggles, with your lessons learned, and your experiences lived! So instead of proactively looking for video ideas, just live your life. Happiness equals progress!
Tip #4: Hone in Your Authentic Powers
We've all been blessed with certain strengths but sometimes, we act against our own best interest! That's why it's so important to take a closer look at what God (or the Universe) has given us and enhance it! That way, we'll naturally become more confident, postured and empowered!
The very first thing we need to get on point? Your color palette!
Why? Because you could be wearing all the wrong colors for your skin tone and they could be diminishing your natural beauty. For example, a couple of years ago, I kept getting comments that I wear too much makeup.
After a girls' trip to LA, I identified my color palette and it made sense why people would say that to me. It wasn't that I was wearing too much makeup (let's face it, you need to project extra on camera), it was that I was wearing the wrong colors.
So take a look at your authentic coloring - the way that God made you. There are 3 natural colors you need to pay attention to - your:
- eye color;
- hair color;
- skin tone.
Once you identify those, you can put together your color palette. Now the question is: do the colors you wear compliment and edify you or are they competing? Once you start wearing your colors, you will feel more comfortable in your own skin and that will translate on camera!
PRO Tip: Look at the camera dot and pretend like you're talking to your best friend.
Another great way to project on camera is to look at the camera dot. That way you maintain eye contact with the person watching you. And pretend like you're talking to your best friend because that's going to release your stiff energy.
Tip #5: Just Keep Doing It
That's the only secret to success you need to know.
Why should you keep doing it? It's all about the confidence/competence loop. The more videos you make, the more competent you will become. And the more competent you become, the more confidence you'll gain!
PRO Tip: Make your videos public!
You need to start thinking that your videos are not just for the people you know but also, for the people you don't know. Which is why you've got to make sure your videos are public. Also, engage with the people that are engaging on your videos - commenting, and liking. You need to realize that this is just a part of the process. Video is a great way to expand your reach!
Remember this: people are always paying attention, even if you don't realize it! So just keep showing up and eventually, success will come!
