Dominate Facebook and Instagram: 7 Proven Strategies to Increase Your Engagement
Why is Your Engagement Down?
Here’s the thing. When a platform matures, people’s attention gets spread thin.
Let’s take Facebook, for example. You’ve got all of these big companies and influencers running ads, posting Stories, and creating Groups. The algorithm has to adapt and choose what to focus on.
In fact, did you know that one of your biggest competitor for your newsfeed posts are Groups? It’s true! Why? Because Facebook is pushing Groups.
So pay attention to the latest updates and priorities that Facebook and Instagram are promoting. If they don’t align with your content, that could be a big reason as to why your engagement might be down.
That being said, let’s dive deeper into the specific strategies you can use to increase your reach, even if the algorithm changes!
Strategy #1: Ask Questions
Set a reminder on your phone once or twice a week and just ask people questions. It could be something super silly or funny, like:
- Do you drive an electric car or a motorized car?
- Would you rather go out to dinner or go to the movies for a date night?
This will get people to engage because people love to share their opinion!
And at the end of the day, it’s all about creating conversations and getting people to talk.
PRO Tip: Do this in your Facebook Groups as well. It could be something specific to your niche or it could be something goofy and light-hearted. You should be posting in every Group that you want to generate business out of, but remember: first and foremost, you’re in there to serve, provide value, and make friends!
Strategy #2: Engage & Connect
Have you noticed how distracted people are? There are all of these other platforms like TikTok and YouTube. And there’s a lot more content to consume out there, it’s more competitive.
But guess what? There are also fewer people that are as competitively creating content.
So now the big question is: the people who are engaging with you, are you engaging with them?
- Are you commenting on other people’s posts?
- Do you engage in Facebook Groups?
- Are you responding to Stories?
IMP: You don’t have to spend all day doing this. Set aside 60 min/day and have a power hour. Be intentional with your time and follow our FAME Formula.
Strategy #3: Entertain, Empower, Educate
When you’re creating content, remember the three E’s: Entertain, Empower, Educate.
Or what we like to call: enter-trainment.
So pay attention to what other social media influencers are doing and hop on the hot trends.
If they’re crushing it with TikTok or Reels, you hop on those same trends. If you see them doing a lot in Facebook Groups or you see them using a new feature, try out some of these new features yourself. Why? Because you never know what might be your thing.
PRO Tip: Post only once a day on your wall and leave the rest of your content for your Stories. And if you do want to post a second time, make sure it’s hours apart from the first post!
Bonus Tip: Wish people a Happy Birthday and reply to their Stories! Why? Because you automatically end up in their inbox! And isn’t that where you want to be?
Strategy #4: Use the 5-5-3 Daily Prospecting Formula
What does 5-5-3 mean? It means you should:
- Friend up or reconnect with 5 new people/day
- Pop the question to 5 people/day
- ATM 3 people/day
Friend up or re-connect with 5 people a day on Facebook or try to get 5 new followers on Instagram. If you do that over the course of a month, that’s 150 new followers or friends. After all, you are a professional conversation starter.
Then pop the question to 5 people and ATM 3 more.
Now, you might be thinking that’s a lot. But here’s the truth – if you want to hit it hard, you should be ATM-ing 10 to 20 people a day.
Half of the people that are interested in the products would probably be open to understanding the business. If nothing else, you’re planting seeds.

Strategy #5: Pop the Question
Are you wondering when to pop the question? The truth is, it depends. It’s like dating – it depends on where the conversation’s going.
If they’re very receptive, then it’s easy to say, “You know what? I love your energy. Do you currently monetize your social media?/Are you currently making money online? I’d love to share with you what we do. If not, no big deal.”
On the other hand, if people are giving you one-word answers like “Yeah” or “Nah”, or it takes them forever to respond, then you don’t have to pop the question yet. We’re not here to convince anybody. Think about it like this (but don’t say it out loud) – you’ve got the cookie and they’re lucky that they’re meeting you.
Pro Tip: Do you want to get the attention of influencers? Share your biggest takeaways from their content, a quote of theirs, or even one of their Instagram posts or Reels. It’s extremely effective. You’re literally showing up with value, but sharing someone else’s content, while you’re weaving in content of your own.
Just have fun. Throw it out there and see what happens! And remember: talk like you!
Strategy #6: “Active” on Messenger
Go in your Facebook Messenger and in “People”, you will see a tab that says “Active “. Why don’t you message some of these people?
You could say something like:
- “What’s going on, Kim? Hey, I just saw you’re online. I just wanted to say, hi, how are things?”
- “What’s up, Tracy? Hey, how’s it going? I just wanted to see how things are going with your business? Just saw you’re online and I figured I’d say what’s up.”
Then wait for their response, and if they’re positive and cool, say something like:
- “Listen, just curious. I’m starting some new teams and I’m fired up. We got some big things coming here. If you’re at all open, I’d love to share with you what we’re doing. We got some big bonuses on the table and we got some crazy, awesome success stories that we’re creating. And I’d love to help you. So I wanted to see if you’re open to doing what I’m doing – monetizing your social media, creating multiple income streams, building a residual check. If you’re open, let me know; if not, no biggie.”
Because why not? Why would you have Facebook Friends if you’re not allowed to be friends and talk?
That’s how you’re not cold messaging anybody. You’re talking to someone you’re actually friends with!
Strategy #7: Become a Sales Person
People don’t like sales. Why? You do them every day!
- Selling someone on hiring you for your job
- Selling your significant other on going on that first date with you
- Selling your kids on eating healthy
You’re always selling. And even if you say you don’t like sales, you’re literally selling you not liking sales.
That’s where marketing comes in. And the goal is to have people raise their hand.
When you’re new or new-ish, you should be promoting your products. Yes, the engagement will be low compared to other posts, but so what? Do it anyway because somebody is always watching.
Promote your product in your Stories and in your feed, and create curiosity around it. Facts tell, stories sell.
And once you get in on those one-on-one conversations, you are selling and prospecting. Pop the question as often as you can – that’s the difference between those who are successful in network marketing and those who are not.
