Have you heard about Facebook Groups’ latest feature? It’s called Social Learning and it’s blowing up right now!
And with good reason! Social Learning is an amazing way to create buckets of content, finally put order in your Groups and add more functionality to your community!
But how do you active and use this amazing new feature? Inside the tutorial today, I’ll show you exactly what you need to do in order to CRUSH it! Are you excited? Let’s dive in!
Facebook Groups Tutorial | How to Use Social Learning and Units
What is Social Learning Group and how does it work?
A social learning group is like a regular group except:
- Admins can organize posts into units and change the order in which they appear
- Group members can click I’m done to let the admin know they’ve interacted with the unit
- Admins can view group insights and see details on unit and post completion
Step #1: Activating Social Learning
Note: Use a computer to go navigate this step.
Facebook Groups are divided into different types based on their functionality. So you’ll need to change the category of your Group.
Go to your Facebook Group, and underneath the cover photo, click on “More” —> “Edit Group Settings”.
Then you’ll see a category called “Group Type”. Now all you have to do is change it to “Social Learning”. And ta daaa!
Congratulations! Now you’ll have awesome new options! One of them is the “Landing Tab”. That refers to what people will see when they enter your Group.
You can choose to show them the “Discussion”, a.k.a. Facebook sets the Order of posts. Or (and this is the BEST part!) you can choose to show them “Units”! If you do that, YOU will be in charge of the organization of the content and you’ll be able to control your users’ experience. How cool is that?!
There’s another feature that will become available, and that’s “Units”. So let’s dive even deeper into it!
Step #2: Using Units
Think of “Units” as the Modules you have in any learning course. The only difference is that now this is YOUR learning environment, so you can choose to organize it however you think is best.
So when you click on Units, I want you to think strategically and ask yourself, “What would be most efficient way for me to organize the content of my Group, so that my community gets the greatest value out of it?”
I recommend that no matter what structure you choose, your first Unit should be “Getting Started”. Why? Because you can create a Welcome Video with an explanation how the Group works. Then you can add Group Rules (always a must!) and all of your freebies, so members can download them easily and get instant value!
After that, you can add however many Units you’d like. And if you’re not sure about their order, don’t worry! Rearranging them is very easy! Click on “Settings” and then just drag and drop! Cool, right?
Step #3: Adding Content
Now let’s get into the good stuff! How do you go about adding content to your Units?
There are two ways.
If your group isn’t too big, you can just scroll through it. Once you find a piece of content you want to add to a Unit, click on the 3 dots in the top, right-hand corner. Then you’ll see the option to either add it to an existing Unit or to create a new one.
The other way you can go about it, is if you already know of a certain type of content that you want to add, simply search for the keyword. And Facebook will pull up all of your relevant content.
Ninja Tip: You can choose the option to “Show Progress”. That way your members will be able to see how far along they’ve come in each Unit. Did they complete it or not?
And that’s it! How simple and easy was this?!
Keep in mind that you’ll need to set some time aside to do all of this organization. It took me about 2 days to go through all of our Groups but it was SO worth it! It was a lot of fun and the end result is A-mazing!
BONUS TIP: Create a cover photo for your Group with clear instructions for people to get started. It will be useful both for any new members and for older ones who’re still not too familiar with Units.
