After all, the only constant in life is change. And we, as entrepreneurs, need to adapt and evolve!

The NEW Facebook Algorithm – Tips & Tricks for 2019
Tip #1: How Often Should You Post?
How much is too much? Should you post once a day, twice, three times?
The truth is, when you put up your 1st post of the day, each consecutive one gets 60 fewer clicks. That means that less is more!
In our experience, we found that ideally, you should post 1-2 times per day. And if you’re going for that 2nd post, make sure it’s 6 to 9 hours after the 1st one!
IMP: This is your business and your Social Media channel. So test things out and see what works best for you!
PRO Tip: Use Stories
I know what you’re thinking… Some of us have a lot to share! What do we do then?
Do this: Save your most premium content for your feed, and add everything else to your Story. That way, you still let people get to know, like and trust you, AND the algorithm loves you!
And what’s more, you can use Stories strategically. 62% Facebook users say they become more interested in a product/business after they’ve seen it pop up in a Story. Just make sure you stick to the 80/20 Rule!
Tip #2: Don’t Use Links in the Description
Should you add links to the description of your posts?
The answer is a definite NO!
Why? Because Facebook doesn’t want people leaving the platform. So whenever the algorithm “smells” even a hint of a link (no, not even a link to your Facebook Group is ok), it stops showing it to people. Crazy, I know! But that’s how the game works. And when you know the rules, winning becomes a matter of time!
PRO Tip: Add your link in the comments of your post.
Tip #3: Avoid Fishing for Engagement
Yes. Avoid phrases like:
- Comment below
- Share this video
- Tag a friend
And here’s the thing. You should avoid not only writing them in your captions but also saying them in your Lives. Because the algorithm is now “listening” even to Live videos. And if it “hears” these phrases, it will limit the number of people it shows your broadcast to.
So what can you do?
Change the language! Use variations of the same phrases, such as:
- Smash the heart button
- Share the love
Why is Facebook doing all that? Because it’s promoting genuine conversations. Which is lucky for us, because we’re professional conversation starters! So think about creative ways to engage with your followers!
PRO Tip: Use Emojis and Graphics
When you write “comment below”, the algorithm picks it up immediately. But if you substitute the “O” in “comment” with a sun emoji, for example, then you’re good to go! Just remember not to overdo it, because then it will look too spammy.
And if you don’t like that approach, you can always add your CTCs (calls to comment) and CTAs (calls to action) to your thumbnail or cover photo!
Tip #4: Create Authentic Conversations & Ask Questions
Facebook’s mission is to “Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together” and the algorithm reflects that. In other words, Facebook wants genuine connections and good conversations. So what questions get the most attention?
The questions that start with these words will kick your engagement to the moon:
And keep in mind that if you ask a question that starts with the words “How” or “Why”, it can be a blessing and a curse. Why? Because on the one hand, such questions require a longer answer, so fewer people might express their opinion. On the other hand, however, Facebook loves longer comments because then it sees your content as valuable. So don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works best for you!
Tip #5: Showing Your Posts Takes Time
There’s too much content on Facebook. So sometimes it can take between 48 to 72 hours for your friends to see your posts!
And what’s the best way to handle this? Create evergreen content! In other words, content that will be relevant even if someone sees it a week or a month from when it was originally published!
PRO Tip: Space Out Your Answers To Comments
When you’re replying to your comments, reply to your first comments right away!
In a day or two, jump back in the comments. That’s how you bring the post back to life. The best way to make your post more relevant for a longer period of time is to create conversations in the comments!
IMPORTANT: If your posts aren’t getting good engagement, that hurts your page. So if you published something that’s getting crickets after 72 hours, just delete it. Marketing is all about testing things out and having fun with it!
Tip #6: Train the Algorithm
Before you post anything, take 5-15 min to engage with your Friends. For example, go to your Facebook Lists or open your Messenger and see who’s online right now. Then go ahead and “Hello”. That way you’re warming up the algorithm.
After that, do your post, and then reply to the comments underneath it. The more activity you have, the more visibility you’ll enjoy (this is especially effective on Instagram)!
Tip #7: Create Longer Videos
Another question that we often get asked is: how long should your videos be?
Right now, Facebook favors videos that are about 10 min long. But here’s the thing – if you don’t have anything valuable to say, don’t stretch out your videos. And on the flip side, if you have a lot to say, don’t limit yourself to 10 min. Your videos should be as long as they need to be but as short as possible!
Tip #8: Focus On Providing Value
Whenever you show up on Social Media, the first question you should ask yourself is: “How can I help someone with the content I put out today?”
Because think about it – if you show up and you only ever post pictures of a night out, a stranger would not find too much value in it, and he/she will stop following you. BUT! If you provide value, they’ll keep coming back!
PRO Tip: Don’t get hung up on what your Brand is! Sure, having a Brand is important but what’s even more important is for you to provide value and to have fun with it. So test things out and see what you like to talk about and what your audience responds to the best. Once you have that dialed in, then you can start to think about your Brand.
BONUS TIP: The Best Time For Posting
We’ve all heard of posting when people are online, right? But try this for size: post outside of business hours. So instead of posting at 11 am, 3 pm or 7 pm, play with it and post between 9 pm and 11 pm. You might be surprised by the results!
FINAL BONUS TIP: Vertical Video
You may have noticed that a lot of influencers are now recording their videos in vertical mode. That’s because it feels more native to platforms like Facebook and Instagram. And 79% of users back this up.
Of course, if you want to repurpose your video later on, landscape format might work better. That’s entirely up to you!
