Your customers are the lifeblood of your business. But let’s face it: getting them on board can be challenging for some of us.

Would you like to double, triple, quadruple it?
Do you feel like you could do a better job of keeping customers?
I’ll tell you what I’ve discovered over the years.
Expanding the customer base is a nightmare for many entrepreneurs. After all, landing one-time customers is cool, but turning them into regular loyal customers is way cooler.
Instead of sitting back and hoping prospects will show up, you need to be proactive and start using this Referral Post Strategy.
It turns out…
- 92% of people trust the referrals they get from their friends;
- People are 4X more likely to buy a product if it was recommended by a friend;
- 84% of consumers are more than happy to refer their friends to a product or service they enjoyed.
Today we’re talking with network marketing rockstar Jordan Leveck about how she built a massive customer base leveraging referral posts.
Before we jump to it, here’s a little bit about Jordan. She has been in the industry for six years. Before this, she was a personal trainer and dietician and now she’s running a successful healthy-living company. She started 2020 being the number one customer pod in a group of over 12,000 members.
“I used to be almost 300 pounds before I became a trainer. I understand the struggle behind getting healthier. When I found network marketing, I thought it’s better than meeting people in the gym. I can only see so many people in a day. I didn’t like that I couldn’t help more people. Network marketing was just a smart way to help as many people as possible,” says Jordan.
Jordan’s secret in tapping into her network and building and 10x -ing her customer base is what we call referral posts. So let’s see what they are and how you can leverage them in your business.
Referral Posts: the Most Powerful Strategy to Expand Your Network and 10X Your Customer Base
Referral Posts and How to Use Them
Jordan’s entire business has been built through referrals. She preaches about it all the time.
“We focus [mainly] on who we can impact that we know. [Sometimes] we forget there’s an entire world out there. So many people you can connect to all over the place.”
A referral post is a post that a customer makes to promote your product in exchange for an incentive.
Here’s how it works:
… you create a post for one of your customers;
… the customer then publishes it on their timeline;
… they tag you in the post;
… and you handle all the comments, likes, and shares on the post
The goal of a referral post is to have people thrilled about your product and share their enthusiasm with others by tagging you in a social media post and sharing their results. When people are curious and want more information, you’ll be able to reach out and do your magic.
There are a lot of ways to incentivize people who do referral posts for you. Here’s how Jordan does it:
“Our company has a referral program. It’s actually my favorite thing about [it]. When someone sets up a referral account, they get ten dollars for every person that orders through their link, even if they haven’t ordered yet.”
Another way you could incentivize people is by doing giveaways.
“You don’t have to spend a lot of money on giveaways. It can be an Amazon gift card or a sample. The key is to go to your upline’s upline and do it as a team. People can piggyback off of it. Or you can do it personally and get creative with it,” explains Jordan.
Why You Should Use Referrals?
Referral posts are a powerful marketing tool.
On the one hand, people love to get recommendations for great products. On the other, we all like to share a wonderful experience with a product or company or an incredible result we had.
#1. You don’t have to chase people
“Referrals are so easy. You always have people coming to you. They’re interested [and] they already know it works. The process is super simple. You add people on Facebook and end up with a list of friends who want what you sell.”
Using referrals is also a smart move for getting new business opportunities. Some of the people you connect with have good engagement, influence, and a decent network. You could meet someone who can refer business or can potentially turn into a business partner.
Either way, it’s WIN-WIN.
#2. You tap into your customers’ database
Some of our best distributors start off as customers. Even though some customers will never become distributors, there’s a very good chance they know someone who would.
Using referrals is a great way to think outside the box and leverage your network and your customers’ networks.
#3. You get exposure
While referrals will bring you a lot of advantages, they require commitment. You have to talk to a lot of people. You’re going to get a lot of questions about your product or service. Which only means one thing:
You’re getting attention.
By creating conversations and meeting new people, you’re planting new seeds. You’re growing your business.
Here’s How to Create the Best Referral Posts
Check out Jordan’s best advice for creating amazing referral posts that lure people in and get them excited about your business.
#1. Use curiosity marketing
“I think it’s important to do it the right way and use curiosity rather than just posting your product so someone can Google it or buy it on eBay,” explains Jordan.
Another thing she mentions is you should stay away from spammy posts.
“The cool thing about referrals is you’re not bugging your friends. People are literally coming to you. They’re like raising their hand and are interested in what you have to offer.”
Fun fact: Jordan’s entire team and her met through referral posts. Crazy, right?
#2. Don’t be salesy
“Here is what I want you to think about when you’re creating referral posts: If you saw your post, would you think it’s selling something? People don’t want to be sold. Make sure you sound human. Show them the benefits, not the ingredients. Keep it short and sweet.”
Let’s say your business is about spa products for the home. You could say something like:
“My baby sucks out my soul, so I need this [X].” Use humor to help people relate to you.
#3. Make it easy for people
The best way to go about referral posts is to give people the text of what they should publish. They will only need to copy/paste it and hit post. Make sure you test and tweak along the way. And don’t forget to let people know you’re going to reply to all the comments.
Now, here’s the thing with comments. Some posts will only get three comments, while others might get a hundred. Be excited about them. At the end of the day, these are people interested in learning more about your product/business.
#4. Never have people lie
“If your referral people didn’t have the chance to look into your opportunity yet, don’t encourage them to lie,” points out Jordan.
Instead, be honest. For example, if you’re selling weight loss products, your post could be something along these lines:
“So, I heard this stuff won the most effective weight loss supplement of the year [because it did]. But I’m just here because it tastes like brownie batter. I love it.”
Before we go, here’s Jordan’s last piece of advice for those who are willing to put referrals to work for them:
“You just have to fail forward. Ignorance on fire is better than knowledge on ice. The only way you’re going to learn how to do referral posts… is to do it. Instead of trying to make them perfect, tweak as you go. Make sure you start, and you will get better.”
